CUSTOM - How it was to work on a feature horror film

Last year I had the pleasure of working with director Tiago Teixeira on his first feature film, Custom — an erotic horror movie that feels like the love child of Videodrome and Kill List.

Custom follows a couple of arthouse erotic content creators who get tangled up in the requests of a new, mysterious client — requests that must be shot on a very specific VHS format. I won’t spoil it beyond that.

I

worked on some of the film’s VFX, bringing in experience I’d picked up from other productions and applying it where it actually mattered. Nothing flashy for the sake of it — just small, precise interventions that served the film. My contribution is tiny in the grand scheme of things, but it’s one I’m genuinely happy with.

Working with Tiago was one of the most relaxed and enjoyable experiences I’ve had in the industry so far. Clear vision, zero ego, and a real trust in collaborators.

I love how that vision came together and how the whole project leans hard into its eerie, esoteric atmosphere. It reminded me of the early Matrix scenes, when Thomas “Neo” Anderson senses something is wrong and reality starts to slip into an uncanny nightmare of white rabbits, green office cubicles, and rave parties.
